Downtown WiFi, part 2.

January 16th, 2008 · 6 Comments

I have a report that there does indeed seem to be free WiFi downtown now. There is a SSID of “ATTMETROWIFI” now available near the antenna locations. Cool beans!

Edit: there also seems to be a SSID of ATTMETROFREE, so perhaps one pay for service and one free service?

I assume you are in St. Louis, MO? I see the sites but cannot join the network. Keep getting Unable to join the network “ATTMETROFREE” . Any suggestions?

Yeah, STL, MO. I haven’t tried to join them so I don’t have any idea. It’s likely that they haven’t completed the roll out and until it’s finished they won’t let people connect.

It’s March now, and both connections have worked for me for the past couple of months… unfortunately, they’re now asking about a password.

The network is still being built out and is not open to the public at this point. It should be very soon though.

Here’s a story about the network from the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

I just found the network, but I can’t log on. It may be that the signal is too weak, but I can’t tell.
